A WORD ABOUT CTC
Our mission. . .
- To translate education, research, and experience into faith-based parenting philosophies.
- To validate, encourage, support, and equip parents in the critical task and awesome privilege of parenting.
Our commitment. . .
- To provide a candid look at the reality of being a child—and a parent—in the 21st century.
- To refrain from providing simplistic “how-to” steps or “one-size-fits-all” formulas, which have the potential of heightening, rather than diminishing, parental apprehension and feelings of futility.
Our conviction. . .
- What occurs within the family unit has a critical impact on a child’s physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
- Parents can and should provide much-needed protection against the myriad of negative societal forces bombarding today’s child.
- The Heavenly Father will lovingly provide wisdom and guidance to parents navigating the wide parenting seas in their small boats.
A WORD ABOUT JUDY ANN
For more than four decades, Judy Ann Mumford has been actively involved both personally and professionally with family matters. The following excerpt from the Introduction to her book, Small Boat, Wide Sea: Parenting in the 21st Century, gives a glimpse into her passion to that constellation of human beings referred to as “family.”
As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, I have experienced first-hand the joys and challenges of relationships within the family. As a friend, I have been both the recipient and the provider of parenting counsel. As a speaker, I have stood before many groups of parents who were seeking to understand temperamental and developmental issues and translate them into effective practice. As a professor, I have learned a great deal from my students and attempted to impart credible parenting ideologies to them, tomorrow’s child psychologists, journalists, social workers, and—most importantly—parents. As a researcher, I have been involved in lengthy one-on-one conversations with adolescents whose lives have been irreversibly altered by poor choices. In a diverse array of roles, I have observed, examined, and contemplated child behaviors and parenting practices, attempting to make some sense of possible correlations and connections.
Deeply convinced that children are treasures from God, Judy Ann’s commitment is to reach out with a message to parents of support, validation, and reassurance.
